Steve Smith is ‘not worried’ about being included in the Australia T20 World Cup 2024 roster

With his terrible performance in the just-finished T20I series against New Zealand, Steve Smith said that he isn’t ‘very worried’ about making it into Australia’s T20 World Cup 2024 roster.

Smith’s place in the T20I team was called into question when he could only muster 15 runs in two games. It was recently revealed by his colleague Matthew Wade that it would be difficult for the top batter from Australia to qualify for the T20 World Cup.

Smith has said, however, that he isn’t giving it any thought. The great batsman told AAP that he received a few nice deliveries during the New Zealand series. Smith said that he is unclear about the selectors’ desired course of action when it comes to placing a call.

“To be honest, I have a few good balls. It was difficult, but (Adam) Milne got one to take off in the second game. It was quite hard to pick up when the sun was sinking, Lockie, and he delivered me a great in-swinger. Although everything wasn’t perfect, it is what it is, and things will get better from here. I am uncertain about the intentions of the selectors. Either way, I’m not really all that concerned. I’m there if I’m present. Smith said, “If I’m not, I’m not.”

Smith will now concentrate on the longest format of the game when the Test series against New Zealand begins on Thursday, February 29. Warner’s retirement has allowed the top hitter to move up to the opening position.

Smith added that he enjoys his current job and that it doesn’t alter in any way from when he batted at No. 3 or No. 4 in the batting order.

It’s enjoyable, but to be honest, I don’t think it’s any different. For a significant portion of my career, I batted at three, and I also batted at four, where I was in inside two overs. I actually don’t find it all that new,” he said.

New Zealand and Australia will square off in two Test matches.
